We know it is raw and vulnerable, both to share and be listened to. But vulnerable is where we can meet and grow... If you want to.
Letters To Ummi (LTU) needs to centralise non identifiable and anonymous ways of engagement. It is our aim to center honesty, safety and compassion when platforming our nuanced worlds and we wish to tell you that we are still figuring out how to safety navigate this online whilst not jeopardizing our communities safety. We witness online spaces are full of data privacy issues.
This work needs more time, resources and care and as we continue doing our work irl (in real life) we need more support to be able to share this work online.
So until we are able to create that honest and secure online platform, we will continue to work intimately, building on what we have, with those we can trust around us.

Letters To Ummi (LTU) is an evolving multilingual, intergenerational and multifaceted project that centers non identifiable and anonymous ways of engagement; focusing on Queer West Asian, South West Asian, North African and East African+ realities, both from within the regions and their diasporas.
It is an on-going project that centers lived experience and questions how to safely share our realities with one and other, in hope to harmlessly document vulnerable and intersectional realities.
Via our online platform, LTU aims to invite audio and written contributions in any spoken language, from anyone within and associated to our community who wants to document our lives, our letters and our unspoken truths in this vulnerable yet necessary long term project.
We are working on an accessible way to set this up, via a secure online platform which can centralise our safety whilst keeping those who want it, anonymous. We are not there yet..
Key- Ummi means My Mother in Arabic. In the context of this project it also means mother tongue - language, mother land - home lands, culture, society, customs, food, man, woman and anyone in between… Anything which has offered us an experience of life.
